Corin Gray

Assistant Professor of Practice
Department:
Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology

Hello! My full name is Corin Vashoun Gray formerly known as Corin Vashoun White. I identify as a female African-American wife, mother, Christian, scholar, and scientist. I am proudly first generation and I received my bachelor’s in biology from Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia in 2010 and a doctorate studying ecological genomics from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas in 2015. I enjoy both basic and applied biological research and it has been a privilege to publish my work in journals such as frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, mBio, and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Note: Most of these publications are associated with my former name (C.V. White).

I also have interests and experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts in higher education which have led to publications such as “Creating More Inclusive Research Environments for Undergraduates” and my current position at the University of Arizona. I have experience teaching biology, biotechnology, and microbiology at the elementary, middle school, high school, and undergraduate levels and have received training in equitable teaching as an IRACDA (Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award) Fellow at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). In my previous position at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), I taught professional development courses to serve undergraduates in Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC) programs. I also worked with faculty to implement course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs). My mission is to make changes in the way educators teach biology in order to make science more accessible and approachable for all students. I have just started (spring 2023) my journey at this university and bring all of my various experiences into my work as an Assistant Professor of Practice in order to enrich all learning experiences for which I have influence.
