The Galileo Circle awards scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate exceptional potential in the physical, mathematical, environmental, cognitive, and life sciences.

The Danny Brower Scholarship was established by the MCB Department to honor the professional accomplishments of Danny Brower, Professor and Scientist, for over 25 years at the University of Arizona. The winners of this esteemed scholarship for 2025 are Aparna Chandrasekar and Caleb Konecek.

The 2025 MCB Excellence in Research Award goes to Bryce Wilson, a double major in MCB and Biochemistry! Congratulations on this achievement!

Among the College of Science's 2025 Galileo Circle Awards recipients are George Sutphin and Emily Dykstra.

The Winston Churchill Foundation has awarded Bryce Wilson a 2025 Churchill Scholarship, which supports undergraduate students who wish to pursue a year of Master's study in science, mathematics and engineering at Cambridge University.

Tsang Alan Tsang Cheng Hou, Assistant Professor, University of Hong Kong and Ingmar Riedel-Kruse, Associate Professor MCB, published a paper exploring how a single-celled organism called Euglena gracilis reacts to different light intensities.

Xizofan Jin, Assistant Professor at the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, and Ingmar Riedel-Kruse, Associate Professor, Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of Arizona, recently published a paper in Nature Communications, titled "Optogenetic patterning generates multi-strain biofilms with spatially distributed antibiotic resistance".

Ashlin Schaefbauer is working to make the HPV vaccine more effective and more affordable so that everyone can have access to it.
