Volleyball fans know Laura Larson for her impressive digs and school-record 136 appearances on the court. Larson brought the same focus and determination to her studies. She boasts another key stat—a 3.97 graduating GPA with a major in Molecular and Cellular Biology and minors in Biochemistry and Sports Management.

Matthew Knatz, Manager of Information Technology, was awarded the 2017 College of Science Award of Excellence for the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) at the Annual College of Science Staff Recognition Luncheon on April 18, 2017.

In my last year or so of undergrad, I took an elective called “Bioethics” with Professor Pimentel, which was an entire class on just that – the ethical and moral concerns and dilemmas within biology and the medical field.  I was absolutely enthralled.

James Hughes Hallett, Xiangxia Luo, and Andrew Capaldi in the MCB department found that glucose starvation triggers disassembly of TORC1 and movement of the key TORC1 component Kog1/Raptor into a prion-like aggregate to lock cells in a quiescent (sleep-like) state.

Jennifer Cubeta, Assistant Director of the Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP), was selected as a 2015 Outstanding Staff Award recipient by the Asian American Faculty, Staff and Alumni Association (AAFSAA) at the University of Arizona.
