MCB Postdoc Dr. Hui Yang One of Eight BIO5 Postdoc Fellows

Hui YangDr. Hui Yang, a postdoc in Dr. Solange Duhamel's lab, was recently awarded one of eight Postdoctoral Fellowships by the BIO5 institute.

Dr. Yang joined the University of Arizona in December of 2019 after receiving his PhD from the University of Massachusetts Lowell where he worked on a group of unique aquatic invertebrates called rotifers. His research spanned the fields of evolution, aquatic ecology, and developmental biology. He will be investigating an alga-salamander symbiosis, including the metabolic interactions between the symbiont and the host, at the University of Aizona.

Dr. Yang will utilize his fellowship award to travel to Northeastern U.S., where the spotted salamander lays eggs in the spring, to determine the extent of this relationship. He plans to visit two collaborators who will provide guidance and resources to determine if substances are being shared between algae and embryos.

The BIO5 Postdoctoral Fellowship is an internal funding mechanism for outstanding postdoctoral researchers at the University of Arizona who are engaging in research projects aligned with the mission of the BIO5 Institute. Fellows are awarded valuable financial support and mentorship to help the pursuit of their professional goals.
