Ella Van Wiel
Hometown: Portland Oregon.
Research lab: I work in Dr. Kerry Cooper's lab with Caroline Scranton on the COVhort project examining the gut microbiome post Covid infection.
Clubs and other activities: I am on my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega's executive board as VP Ritual and Fraternity Appreciation. I am also on my pre-dental club, Delta Delta Sigma's executive board serving as the social media manager. I am a member of Elevation Ski Club and also participate in multiple intramural sports teams throughout the year. I love being outside, hiking, skiing, and grew up riding horses competitively and showing animals through 4-H.
I love being an ambassador because I love to share what I love about MCB! I think this major is amazing for so many reasons and sets undergraduate students up for success in any path they want to pursue post grad.
I loved taking Cancer Discoveries, an MCB elective course and MCB 305 which looks at embryo development. Both topics and classes are incredibly interesting and the lens with which we learn through MCB is unique.
Ask me about: pre-dental/dentistry tracks, stem cells, and the best places to study on campus or in Tucson.
