Adrian Matzkin

Hometown: Tucson, Arizona, 

Majors: I am pursuing degrees in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Physiology and Medical Sciences with a Minor in Music. 

Research Lab: I work in the Dr. Riehle’s Lab in the Department of Entomology, which focuses on understanding mosquito physiology to develop tools to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne vector diseases such as malaria and dengue. Specifically, we are examining how the overexpression of Pantothenate Kinase can impact infection rates. 

Clubs and other activities: I am also part of the Executive Board of Flying Samaritans and a preceptor for Organic Chemistry. I love hiking, playing volleyball and soccer with friends. I also enjoy playing the piano and listening to music. 

My favorite part about being an ambassador is having the opportunity to share everything I know about the Molecular and Cellular Biology program and helping students by answering questions about classes and medical school applications. 

Favorite classes: I have taken Physiology 201 and 202 and Organic Chemistry, and I would love the opportunity to give studying advice.
