Every year, the College of Science recognizes outstanding faculty and advisors for their noteworthy participation in representing and contributing to the teaching and advising mission of the University of Arizona. This year, Ted Weinert, Professor in the Molecular and Cellular Biology Department, has been awarded the UA College of Science Distinguished Career Teaching Award.

Colin J Potter, a Tucson native and 2018 graduate with a double major in Neuroscience & Cognitive Science and Molecular & Cellular Biology, had no second thoughts about continuing his education post-graduation.

Ben Van Maren, a Tucson native and 2017 graduate from the University of Arizona, studied Molecular and Cellular Biology as an undergraduate in the College of Science. He is now a medical student in the College of Medicine here at U of A.

Dr. Riedel-Kruse with Honesty Kim (former UA postdoctoral fellow) and colleagues published a paper in Nature that explores how natural tiling patterns, such as on a fly’s wing, can be formed through mechanical interactions.

The Buchan lab published a new paper describing HARLEY, a new open source microscopy analysis software.

Congratulations, Shifat Hossain, one of the recipients of the Danny Brower Memorial Scholarship for undergraduate MCB students. This is her second time winning the scholarship.

My Duyen Tran has been awarded the May 2022 Outstanding Senior Award for the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. She is also one of the recipients of the Danny Brower Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Gutenkunst worked with European collaborators who sequenced the DNA of 15 humans from the European Neolithic era (6500 - 8500 years ago). They analyzed the DNA of these ancient humans along with contemporary Europeans to measure how much natural selection had changed over time.

This paper reviews recent advances towards providing the general public with first-hand experiences to microbiology and modern biotechnology, such as novel interactive museum exhibits or hands-on activities for schools.
