The 2025 MCB Excellence in Research Award goes to Bryce Wilson, a double major in MCB and Biochemistry! Congratulations on this achievement!

In addition to the MCB Excellence in Research Award, Bryce was also selected to receive the overall Excellence in Undergraduate Research for Spring 2025 for the College of Science. Bryce also won the prestigious Churchill Scholarship, awarded by The Winston Churchill Foundation! Read more about that achievement here

What was your reaction when you learned you were the award winner?

I was so happy! I told my friends and family - they've all been so supportive of me throughout my undergrad and listened to me talk endlessly about research.

Can you share a memorable experience or highlight from your time at MCB that you believe influenced your journey to receiving this award?

Joining Dr. Andrew Paek's lab was one of the best decisions I could have made and I don't think I would have received this award without my time in his lab and without the support my research mentors have given me over the last four years.

Who or what has been the biggest source of inspiration or support for you during your university journey? Tell me a bit about why!

Dr. Elizabeth Jose was an incredible graduate student in the Paek lab that I worked with for about a year and a half. She constantly served as a source of support and inspiration. I have truly loved the science I've gotten to work on over the last few years and having the mentorship of Dr. Jose, as well as Dr. Paek, is one of the main reasons why I've enjoyed it so much.

What are your plans after graduation?

I will be starting a Master's program in Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge through the Churchill Scholarship.

How do you plan to utilize what you've learned at university and in MCB in your future endeavors?

My time in the MCB department has taught me how to approach science with a curious mind. If I've learned anything over the last four years it's that keeping things light, fun, and interesting is the best way to approach science and research.
