Sept. 2, 2014
Associate Professor Daniela Zarnescu's research on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) has been highlighted in Tucson News Now. ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. ALS patients gradually lose the ability of the brain to control muscle movement, and in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. The Zarnescu lab at the UA Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology use fruit flies as a model to understand how defects in motor neurons lead to this disease. see the TV news here.
