Tim Bolger awarded American Cancer Society Research Scholar Grant
May 3, 2013
Congratulations to MCB faculty member Tim Bolger, who was recently awarded a Research Scholar Grant from the American Cancer Society. Dr. Bolger's lab studies the dynamics of mRNA-protein complexes during gene expression, and the grant will address the function of Gle1, a regulator of the ribonucleoprotein remodeling enzyme Ded1, in protein translation. The human version of Ded1 has been linked to cancer, including the childhood brain cancer medullablastoma, so the research may have implications for understanding this disease. These highly competitive grants are for four years and generally only open to investigators in the first six years of an independent faculty position.
