Seminar Information

This talk is an update and return to my roots in the department of MCB. After graduating from UofA, I furthered my education and interests in genomics and computer science while obtaining my PhD working on the Human Genome Project. That project led to leading and participating in multiple subsequent genome analysis projects that sought to understand the evolutionary and biomedical implications in many species (some of which followed included macaque, the first cancer genome, platypus, and the water bear). Interest in evolution and conservation led to projects involving the California condor, cataloging the genome of the last of the northern white rhinos, and breakthrough work using genomics for de-extinction efforts in the black-footed ferret. I will end with an update on work at Cofactor Genomics, where we are leveraging the latest technologies in genomics and AI to write a largely unwritten chapter in diagnostics using RNA models we leverage to address acute needs in immunotherapy and bridging The Precision Medicine Gap.
