Advising Frequently Asked Questions

A: If you are a MCB major, you can see Kara or Justin for advising.  Additional information can be found on the home page in UAccess Student Center in the “Advising” dropdown menu.  This area will list all of your advisors at UArizona.  Students will have a major advisor and may also have additional advisors assigned based on identity within certain groups (ex: Honors, pre-health, pre-law). You can also find advisor locations and scheduling information for advisors across the UA in the Academic Advisor Directory.

A: We like to meet with all new majors so we can go over the degree requirements, discuss your future goals, and help you plan your undergraduate education.  Please schedule a meeting with a MCB advisor to investigate or change to the MCB major.

A: You will need to meet with the advisor for the major or minor that you are interested in adding.  You can find information for other advisors across the UA in the Academic Advisor Directory.  Feel free to reach out to your MCB advisor for questions about common double majors/degrees with MCB students.

A: Priority Registration is designated time period in which students register for the next semester’s courses. Each student is assigned an enrollment appointment based on current class standing and other student groups, such as Veteran, Athletics, and Honors. Enrollment appointments are available on the UAccess Student home page in the "Your Registration Dates" box. A schedule for priority registration can be found on the Registrar’s website. MCB Advising will send out email notifications when the Schedule of Classes is available for the future term and with instructions on advising for registration.  Students are encouraged to meet with MCB advising at least 1-2 weeks before your registration date.

A: Class standing is based on the number of units completed. You can find more information in the UA Catalog. You could be in your second year at the UA but be classified as a senior based on the number of completed units you have! You can find your classification in UAccess in the Academic Record tab under "Program & Statistics."
Freshman1 to 29 units completed
Sophomore30 to 59 units completed
Junior60 to 89 units completed

Students need to complete all major and degree requirements to complete their B.S. degree in MCB, regardless of class standing.

A: Please see the information on the Undergraduate Research page. We do not place students into labs, but are happy to provide assistance and guidance. Please schedule and appointment with Kara or Justin to discuss strategies for finding research opportunities.
