A broadly trained neuroethologist, I am interested in how genetic and developmental variation in the nervous system contribute to behavioral variation, including pathological conditions. In the Zarnescu lab we use the higher-order associative brain regions of the vinegar fly Drosophila melanogaster to understand the role of RNA binding protein pathology in frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), an human neurodegenerative disease.
