Journal of Virology.

The Horton lab, with lead author BMCB Ph.D. student Jonathan Sanchez, has recently determined the high-resolution structure of the N-terminal nuclease domain from the main replicative protein NS1 of human parvovirus B19. This virus is ubiquitous and leads to several serious diseases in healthy and susceptible individuals, including heart failure. It may also trigger inflammatory disorders such as autoimmune disease. The new structure is being used to design drugs to treat the more severe infections with this virus.
