MCB will begin awarding the Science Jump Start Award for research in Spring 2018. This award is intended to enable doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows to pursue a line of inquiry that is complementary to their main research aims, but is outside of the scope of existing funding. One $5,000 Jump Start will be awarded annually to the best individual or team proposal. Awards are notified in the spring; research projects must be completed within 12 months of award date.
Current Doctoral Student(s) or Postoctoral Fellow(s) in MCB (team submissions are acceptable)
Doctoral Students must have completed preliminary exams/orals by the research project start date
Support of PI in the lab where the research will be conducted
Specific Aims: one page, including timeline showing completion of project within 12 months.
Letter of Support: From PI of lab where proposed research project would be undertaken, confirming start date.
Budget: Justification of expenses up to $5,000 (research or conference related).
Applications are due May 1. Awardees will be selected by the MCB awards committee and will be notified by June 1. Successful applicants will be required to provide a summary of their research at the conclusion of the project.
